Debbie Wongawol

Debbie was born in Perth, at the King Edwards Hospital, but has lived in Wiluna with her family for nearly her whole life. Debbie started school in Wiluna, but then moved to different schools in Perth, Carnarvon, and then to Karalundi College, 55kms out of Meekatharra. After completing year 10, she moved back to Wiluna to look after her late grandfather. Debbie’s mother, Marjorie Wongawol, was born on country, and is also an artist in Wiluna. Debbie’s brothers were born in the old Wiluna Hospital, which has been renovated and is now the Information and Art Gallery building, where Debbie paints and displays her work. Painting for Debbie is a hobby, as she is also involved with the local rangers, where she assists with land conservation.
