Description
Amid the Desert landscape, water sources are precious and culturally significant places and Rock holes, soaks and springs are highly valued landmarks. These wetlands provide refuge and habitat for aquatic flora and fauna and are valued resting areas for migratory birds, enabling them to fly long distances and to move across the continent. Fresh water rock holes, springs and soaks support ferns, sedges, rock figs and a varied range of aquatic invertebrates. These water sources though, are increasingly threatened by growing numbers of feral animals such as camels, donkeys and cattle.
