Joella Ashwin
Joella is a proud Martu woman, who has lived her whole life in Wiluna.
In 2017, she became the first Wiluna person to graduate nursing from university, having studied nursing online and travelling to Broome for assessments.
Her contribution to the community was commended when she received the 2019 Royal Flying Doctor Service regional service award at the WA Young Achiever Awards last week.
In addition to being the Deputy President of the Wiluna Shire council, she is also a Director of Tarlka Matuwa Piarku Aboriginal Corporation.
Following in the footsteps of her mum, Joella has embraced her passion for art and recently registered as an artist of the Tjukurba Art Gallery
The single mum hopes her journey helps the Wiluna youth realise there are options for them in their future.
